Sometimes, when you put in a new battery, you might forget to make sure the power cables are securely attached to the alternator. These cables are usually tightened by hand. If they’re not snug, it could be the reason why your car has trouble starting and stopping properly.

When your car is running, both batteries need to have the same voltage because they are linked directly by a relay. If they’re not connected properly, the extra battery that runs various car functions will slowly lose power and won’t be able to recharge.

 the throttle, temperature, and a few other things. The auxiliary battery powers all the other devices while the main battery is mainly for starting the car. The Jeep shifts to the main battery to power everything. If the ESS battery runs out or has an issue you’ll see a message saying ESS is not available.

If the stop start system in your car shows it needs maintenance, look into your alternator. See if the voltage regulator is worn out. If it is, you should replace the alternator.

Fuse Box

Individuals facing this issue often neglect to promptly inspect the fuse box but it is strongly recommended that they do so.

At times, the main fuse in the fuse box might need replacing. The start stop relay for the dual battery system could be causing issues. When a mechanic checks for error codes, it may seem like everything is fine, even though dashboard lights and warnings are still on. If you drive with all the equipment, you can capture the issue when it occurs. It might also be a problem with the automatic shutdown relay.

If you suspect the relay is the problem, buy a new one to fix it.

Another issue could be a burnt out fuse. If that’s the case, replace it. We strongly recommend turning off your Jeep’s auto stop before each trip.

When the dealership tested the main and auxiliary batteries and the auxiliary battery failed, they replaced both. The problem persisted. It turned out to be a relay located next to the secondary battery.

Make sure the numbers on the electrical connectors in the fuse box are in the correct order.

If you put in new batteries, make sure all the fuses in the Fuse Array are working. You can either check each fuse or just get a new Fuse Array. It’s quick to test with a basic multi-meter, about five minutes.

The Fuse Array only costs $50. So, it might be cheaper to just replace it instead of paying a technician by the hour to test it for you.

Pay attention to this. The type of Fuse Array you need for your Jeep relies on whether it has the Tow Package option or not.

Loose Connection

Make sure to look for any wires that aren’t connected well or have rust on them.

When it happened to me the first time, I bought new batteries. Everything was fine for a few weeks but then the alarm came back. I checked the wires and discovered that one of them was too short. After fixing that there were no more alarms.

First, make sure to inspect your car for any loose wires before replacing anything. Pay special attention to the side ground wire if it’s loose, tighten it securely to fix the issue.

5. ECM

If the clips are broken be sure to inspect the ECM plug connector on your ECM. If you find any problems there, try adjusting the ECM connectors. If that doesn’t work, you may need to replace them. Once you do this your ECM plug issue should be fixed.
